Barry Helicopter Long Lines - Special Prevention Inspection - Product Safety Directive

Rédigé par Marc-André Pilon | 8 déc. 2010 05:00:00

This product safety directive is mandatory for all Barry Long Line Jacket owners and users.

Please refer to the Special Prevention Inspection - Product Safety Directive Notice letter: Barry Helicopter Long Lines - Special Prevention Inspection - Product Safety Directive

Background:

The Barry Long Line Jacket and End-Covers are designed to allow for some movement due to the elasticity of the line itself under load. The Jacket and End-Covers are joined together by either an elastic cord or an accessory cord.

Problem:

Elastic cord:

  • The loops of the elastic cord are either formed by using a metal crimp which is covered by an electric tape, or by the use of a knot.
  • A user has reported damage to a Long Line caused by the friction and abrasion of the metal crimps against the Long Line fibers.

Accessory cord:

  • The excess cord should be loosely folded inside the end cover.
  • A user has reported damage to the Long Line fibers due to the incorrect placement of the accessory cord which had been tightly wrapped around the Long Line by field personnel after performing an electrical cord replacement.

Recommendation:

Because of the possible risk of damaging the Long Lines and the significance of this:

  • Barry recommends the immediate removal of the Elastic Cord and/or Accessory Cord from both ends of the Long Lines.

As a result of flight testing and analysis, it has been determined that this modification will have no effect on the performance of the Jacket and End-Covers.

Complete inspection:

Complete inspection of the entire Barry Long Lines should be carried out regularly and in reference to: https://www.barry.ca/fr/publications/manuel-instructions-elingues-heliportees-barry
